The SIGNATURE SERIES brings you stunning images by world renowned photographers, transcending the boundaries of traditional stock photography. Each Signature Series disc showcases a thematic collection of approximately 100 images. The images are chosen for their artistic merits and their usefulness in communicating ideas.

VERSION
This CD-ROM contains three versions of every image pictured in the SIGNATURE SERIES 2: URBAN PERSPECTIVES section of your SIGNATURE SERIES 1-4 printed catalog. Also included is a comprehensive image browsing utility called LightBox. You may access the low resolution TIFF files directly from the LO RES folder within the PHOTOS folder and import them into any popular graphic design or page layout application. In order to access a medium or high resolution JPEG image, you must first decompress the image and then save it to your hard drive as a TIFF. The resultant file can then be imported into other applications in the same fashion as a low resolution TIFF file.
The JPEG images can be decompressed in one of two ways:
Ñ If you own Adobe PhotoShop¬ 2.5 or newer, you can simply use the OPEN command under the FILE menu. Version 2.5 has a built-in JPEG decompression module. When prompted to open a file, you may open a JPEG file directly off the disc. The decompressed image that appears can then be saved in a decompressed format to your hard drive.
Ñ If you don't own Adobe PhotoShop¬, a stand alone decompression utility called PICTURE DECOMPRESS can be found in the UTILITIES folder. Copy this application to your hard drive. To open the MED RES images, this program requires at least 15,000K of free RAM or 15,000K of free disk space allocated as Virtual Memory in the MEMORY Control Panel of your Macintosh. It requires at least 39,000k allocated for the HI RES images. The JPEG files can then be opened using the OPEN command under the FILE menu and saved as a decompressed RGB TIFF to your hard drive.

SS02 CATALOG - This is a LightBox¬ catalog that allows you to preview all of the images contained in SIGNATURE SERIES 2: URBAN PERSPECTIVES.
PHOTOS Folder - Contains the LO RES, MED RES and the HI RES folders.
LO RES Folder - Contains all of the low resolution (600 k) TIFF images of SS02: URBAN
PERSPECTIVES.
MED RES Folder - Contains all of the half-page high resolution (10 mb) JPEG images of
SS02: URBAN PERSPECTIVES.
HI RES Folder - Contains all of the full-page high resolution (28.5 mb) JPEG images of
SS02: URBAN PERSPECTIVES.
MORE RESOURCES folder - This includes the current PhotoDisc Library, helpful text files,
necessary applications and utilities.
LIGHTBOX¬ & CATALOG - The LightBox catalog of PhotoDisc¬ images will run
more efficiently if the items in this folder are copied to your hard drive. You may run
the SS02 CATALOG directly from the CD, however, as it is not necessary to copy these
files in order to view the catalog.
QUICKTIME¬ - This extension adds functionality to your Macintosh and is
required by the LightBox application to view the photos. There is no need to
copy Quicktime if it is already in your extensions folder. If it's not installed,
place QUICKTIME¬ in the System Folder and restart your computer to use
LightBox.
*NOTE: Two versions of QUICKTIME in the system folder will cause an error to
occur.
LIGHTBOX 1.04 - This application for the Macintosh allows the user to browse
and search through the100 images available on this disc. The application will
run only if QUICKTIME¬ has been properly installed in the System Folder and if
your Macintosh has been restarted after the QuickTime¬ installation. After
launching the LightBox application, you may view the thumbnail images by
opening the SS02 CATALOG file.
LB MANUAL Folder - Contains reference material in WORD 4.0 and Teach Text format
for the LightBox browsing application.
PHOTODISC LIBRARY Folder - This folder contains two LightBox catalogs. The SS01-04
CATALOG features the other available images in the SIGNATURE SERIES. The other
catalog file contains a preview of all of PhotoDisc Volumes (1-13).
UTILITIES Folder - Contains PICTURE DECOMPRESS, TEACHTEXT, and a trial version of
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 2.5.1.
MORE INFO - Contains helpful documents including OUTPUT INSTRUCTIONS, COMMON
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS, and a GLOSSARY OF TERMS. These files are provided for
technical reference.
TEXTFILE folder - Contains text for each image in the SS02 CATALOG which includes
filenames and corresponding titles, keywords and photographer's names.
INSTALLING THE LIGHTBOX BROWSING UTILITY
You may run LightBox and access all of the PhotoDisc images directly from the CD-ROM disc provided in the package (as long as Quicktime¬ is installed properly). However, for performance reasons, you may want to install portions of the PhotoDisc¬ package onto your hard disk.

Ñ QUICKTIME¬ extension (place in system folder and restart computer)
These files require approximately 6-8 MB of disk space.
NOTE: If you do not have enough room on your hard disk, both the catalog and the Lightbox program can be run from the CD-ROM disc.
